What’s a monthly active user?

A monthly active user (MAU) is a distinct end user who signs in and gets at least one token issued from one of your issuers in a UTC calendar month. We sum MAU across your team’s issuers. Two things deliberately don’t count: machine-to-machine client_credentials traffic (there’s no user behind it), and repeat logins by the same user in the same month (a user is counted once).

Overage, billed in arrears

On a paid plan, going past your included MAU is fine — we never break production auth over a usage spike. Any overage for a month is totalled at the per-MAU rate for your tier and billed the following month, so you’re only ever charged for users you actually had. Limits exist to protect against abuse, not to squeeze customers: paid production auth is never cut off at the included cap.

The one hard cap is the Free plan — with no card on file, it stops at 1,000 MAU. Add a card (any paid plan) and the ceiling turns into metered overage instead.

Every plan includes

The full product on every tier — you scale MAU, not capability.
